In fact, if you're under 10,001 lbs GVW, don't bother with an motor carrier authority.
You're exempt.
Having an Authority opens up more cans of worms than opens doors to opportunities.
I've been there. I had a truck that was over 10k
I had to stop at scales, have an electronic logging device, buy very expensive liability insurance, etc.
And of course the engine was diesel .
In cold weather diesel hits a cloud point( around 35 degrees ) you must use anti gel fuel additives. Another expense is fuel filters last about 15 to 25k miles. These are expensive to replace.
Then there is the cost of maintaining the exhaust system components.
Do yourself a favor, run under 10k lbs.
Don't apply for a Motor Carrier Authority..Customers on the sending or receiving end don't care. They just want their stuff transported in one piece and arrive undamaged
